THE PROCESS

With its continuous process automated plant, the customer's batch becomes finished product in around 1½ hours.

Each workpiece is exposed to a 3 stage pre-treatment plant, which degreases, phosphates and rinses. Components then pass through a dry-off oven, and are left with the perfect preparation to be powder coated.

The powder itself is applied using a combination of computer-controlled automatic, and manual, electrostatic guns.

The automatic guns provide a tightly controlled, uniform powder coverage, whilst the manual guns ensure that any tight 'boxed' areas are sufficiently covered. This allows for even the most complex of parts to be accurately finished.

PRODUCT QUALITY

Atlas commitment to quality means that all process parameters, such as pre-treatment concentration, powder thickness, adhesion and shade are checked on each batch that passes through the plant.

In addition, our key suppliers of chemicals and powders regularly carry out independent checks, to verify that the plant is working to its full potential - salt spray performance in excess of 1000 hours.

TURNAROUND

Thanks to our ingenious two booth system, colour changes can be carried out quickly and at short notice.

Since one booth is always ready for use whilst the other is being prepared, down-time is kept to an absolute minimum.

Coupled with a short cycle time and extremely flexible operation hours, this fast colour change means that Atlas can offer an enviable lead-time to its customers.

Even small batches, or pre-production prototypes can be rapidly processed, in our new off-line paint booth, which can be set up in any colour in a matter of seconds.

WORK ENVELOPE

The plant was designed to be able to accommodate workpieces up to an enviable 4.5m x 1.5m x 0.6m.

It is on large and complicated components where the benefits of powder coating are at their most evident, as a uniform finish is guaranteed.

AVAILABLE FINISHES

Modern powder coatings are very sophisticated, with a broad range of different finish types.

In addition to a complete range of colours, finishes such as metallic, antique, textured and reduced gloss are now readily available.

Where required, we have the facility to match any colour, so newly made spare parts can be coated to seamlessly match the originals.
