BT Fleet Case Study

The Customer

BT Fleet operate one of the largest commercial fleets in the UK with over 80,000 vehicles on the currently on the road. Bri-Stor have built a strong relationship with BT Fleet having worked together on previous projects over the course of the past 35 years.

Never the less, BT conducted an extensive tendering process ahead of this large-scale project to ensure that their chosen partner had the capabilities to handle both the volumes and tight deadlines involved.

The Challenge

BT Fleet required over 2000 new vehicles per year to be converted for their fleet, with an initial 1400 required within 3 months. This first batch of 1400 comprised a range of vehicles of different sizes, models and specifications, further adding the complexity of the project.

The Solution

In preparation of project launch, Bri-Stor commissioned the set up additional dedicated BT production lines to ensure the smooth operation and continuous flow of vehicles. Additional shop floor resource was sourced and new equipment bought.

Bri-Stor’s engineering department worked closely with BT designers to value engineer and reduce weight of across all specs. Several innovations were developed during the project, including the EasiLift Swing-crane which was designed specifically for BT in the first instance.

The Results

Due to the extensive preparations Bri-Stor Systems conducted prior to project launch, production was quickly able to be ramped up. From a standing start, Bri-Stor were able to convert the 120 vehicles per week required to fulfil the order.

All components used in the project were manufactured on site by sister company Alpha Manufacturing and painted in house by Atlas Coatings. Installation was completed at Bri-Stor’s facilities, while livery was applied by Hex Signs and Graphics, also on site in Hixon. Completed vehicles were able to be stored in Bri-Stor’s secure compound ahead of delivery to the customer.

The contract also included an accident repair and spares service, with all spares available through a secure BT dedicated online portal. This portal also allowed BT stakeholders to access all BT specific documentation, videos and build progress information.
